Sharing the Dream, Building the Team
And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. 2 Timothy 2:2
When Paul was giving Timothy instructions concerning the development and empowerment of “faithful men”. He qualifies them as those who will be able to teach “others” also, he describes four generations of trainers or disciplers to carry on the Great Commision. Evangelism and Discipleship are the two sides of the Gospel, like the two sides of a coin. These two aspects of the church’s mission must be modeled and demonstrated so that it will be carried on by those who are watching, learning and then training and equipping others.
This directive is being used in many areas of the world that have been very closed to the Gospel. What is exciting is that in some of these areas the church is rapidly growing. It is a phenomenon that goes beyond human effort as the knowledge of Jesus Christ is spreading through what has been commonly termed “Church Planting Movements.”
There is such rapid growth that teaching and training must take place in the local churches. Therefore pastors need to embrace the massive possibilities of church growth and not only be trained and equipped in church growth principles, but also see how their church people can be empowered and released to “teach others also”.
The church is God’s idea and He is using the local church in world-wide harvest. The church is spreading and growing as leaders have been equipped and empowered to emulate what is being modeled. The harvest is vast throughout the world, it is of necessity that churches be the catalyst of spreading the work of Christ among the unreached and unengaged people groups.
Sue and I have the privilege of being representatives of AIMS (Accelerated International Mission Strategies) with a special focus on Nepal and other countries within the 10/40 window. We have just returned from a Nepal trip in which we traveled and shared “Harvest Connection”, a mission mobilization seminar with pastors and church leaders in six different areas.
Our goal is to find these key Nepali nationals who will fall into this 2 Timothy 2:2 model of discipleship and expansion. The time we spent casting vision and building relationships are geared to develop churches planting churches with believers who are independent of foreign aid, self supportive, self multiplying and indigenous.
The prize of this goal is the precious fruit of the earth. The masses of people who have never even met a single Christian nor have ever heard of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Matthew 24:14 says, “And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.”
ALL NATIONS is actually better translated from the original language as “People Groups”. According to josuaproject.net there are 7.38 billion people living on the earth today. 3.11 billion people are categorized as Unreached People Groups or people groups having less than 2% of the people group are Christian. 40% of our world’s population are unreached and over 86% of these unreached live in the 10/40 window.
Our dream and vision is that there will be church planting movements that will take place throughout the nation of Nepal which estimates suggest that there are 242 people groups who remain unreached at the time of this writing.
Our purpose is to mobilize the Nepali church with the purpose of reaching out to those unreached people groups. Right now there are key Nepali leaders who are preparing for a training that we will do in August 2017. We will be gathering believers from all over the country to do two trainings in two different cities.
What a privilege to serve in the Kingdom of God being a part of the purpose of God’s redemption for mankind. We believe that the mandate given in Matthew 28:18-20 and Mark 16:15-18 is a commission to every church and every believer throughout the whole world. There is more than enough resources both financially and with human resource throughout the church worldwide to complete this task. It is our purpose! A pastor once said of having a missions focus in a local church, “The light that shines the farthest shines the brightest at home.” Meaning a healthy and strong church is one that takes the words of Jesus, “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the Ends of the Earth.”
We are encouraging churches both in the States and at the ends of the earth to engage in their Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and the Uttermost parts of the earth SIMULTANEOUSLY. Not everyone will go but everyone is important and essential to finishing the Great Commission. Strong missions can only take place as the local church is strong and vibrant. We cannot have one without the other. Our mission is to empower the church to take the gospel where it has never gone before. Together we can do it! Let’s work together making the Great Commission the Great Completion.
